The Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) is a national congressionally chartered veterans service organization founded in 1978 by Vietnam veterans. Member Eligibility Requirements

Membership in Vietnam Veterans of America is based on verified military service during the Vietnam War era.

  • Applicants must be honorably discharged U.S. military veterans.
  • Applicants must have served on active duty between February 28, 1961, and May 7, 1975, inclusive.
  • Service may have occurred in Vietnam or elsewhere during the defined Vietnam War era.
  • Applicants must provide acceptable proof of service, such as a DD Form 214 or equivalent military documentation.
  • Final determination of eligibility is made in accordance with VVA bylaws and verified at the Chapter level.

How Membership Is Structured

Membership is administered through local VVA Chapters organized under state councils and the national organization. Members may participate in chapter meetings, advocacy initiatives, commemorative events, community service activities, and organizational leadership.
